Jaysson Guerrero

Peer-to-Peer Energy Trading, University of Sydney

When Jaysson Guerrero moved here from Columbia three years ago he quickly realized just how important solar energy could be in Australia, thus forming the basis for his PhD on ‘Decentralized Peer to Peer Energy Trading’. Simply put, let’s say your neighbor has solar panels and accumulates an excess of energy. That energy is shipped back to the centralized base of the energy companies, who then to sell it back to the general public. Why can’t he / she sell that excess energy to their neighbor or others in their community? While there are many challenges in this field such as infrastructure, funding and powerful energy companies, Jayson is buoyed by the two million Australian households and business who already use solar panels. Jason’s study also focuses on how ‘Decentralized Peer to Peer Energy Trading’ could be hugely beneficial to remote Australian communities.
